Luke Varney today became the fourth player to agree a deal with Leeds United...read again Leeds fans...four in one day.
The former Pompey striker/winger joins Leeds on a two-year-deal after completing a medical at Thorp Arch on Monday afternoon. Neil Warnock confirmed to Yorkshire Radio that Varney should meet up with the squad within the next 24 hours.
Varney has scored 68 goals in 288 career appearances, 28 of those appearances coming last season for Portsmouth. Fans may remember Varney for his time at Blackpool where he scored five goals in their first Premier League season.
This morning United had a bid accepted for SK Brann midfielder Rudolph Austin, with Jamie Ashdown and Andy Gray agreeing deals earlier this afternoon. Gray returns to the club after starting his career at Leeds, over ten years ago. Since then, Gray has made over 500 career appearances most recently at fellow Championship side Barnsley.
Ashdown was a regular in the Porstmouth goal last season and has bags of experience to push Paddy Kenny for the number 1 spot. The 31-year-old has made 163 appearances and will become the number 2 keeper at Elland Road with Paul Rachubka surely destined to leave the club.
Earlier this evening Leeds United beat Tavistock 0-6 in the second game of pre-season. Aidy White and Paul Green scored in the first half but the Whites totally dominated. Robbie Rogers scored his second goal in as many matches after an own goal, then Dominic Poleon and Zac Thompson scored within two minutes of each other to make it 6-0 to the Whites.
